Kinder Tours & Kinder Registration

Kinder Tours begin in January, which means kindergarten registration for 2020-2021 is upon us! Families who reside in our attendance area may register kindergarteners for the 2020-2021 school year in our front office, January 14-28, 2020. In order to complete registration and be guaranteed a spot in next year’s kindergarten class, parents must present ALL of the following: photo id, current mortgage/property tax bill or rental agreement, current utility bill, proof of birth, and up-to-date immunization records. ALL items are required to complete registration, including immunization records showing all required shots. Students who do not have all required shots, will not be allowed to complete registration. To see a list of immunizations required to register for kindergarten, please visit https://www.scusd.edu/post/learn-about-2020-2021-kindergarten-registration

If you live outside our attendance area (even if you have a sibling attending Caleb in another grade) and wish to register your kindergarten student for 2020-2021, please send Mrs. Hanson an email (erin-hanson@scusd.edu). Caleb is no longer participating in the Open Enrollment process so you will need to submit an intra-district permit request to the district enrollment center. Permits will be reviewed and accepted based on available space in June. Parents of students applying for permits are strongly encouraged to also register at your school of residence during the Jan 14-28 on-campus registration period.

December Learner Profile and Action Focus:

Principled Participation

In IB PYP, being Principled means we act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness and justice, and with respect for the dignity and rights of people everywhere. We take responsibility for our actions and their consequences. These ideas of respect, responsibility, and justice may result in Action in the form of Participation — learning about an injustice may propel you to learn more by participating in a class or learning opportunity; or it may move you to search out an activity to show your support of an issue; or it may even drive you to become part of a group who shares the same sense of fairness and willingness to fight for rights of people locally and globally. Talk with your family about what values your family holds and explore issues and topics that align with these values. Then do some research together and inquire about ways to Take Action through Participation!

Monthly Action Focus

Principled Participation

A group of Principled Caleb students recently Participated in writing postcards for Operation Gratitude to show our service men and women “We Care!”. Operation Gratitude sends 300,000+ Care Packages to Deployed Troops, Veterans, Recruit Graduates, First Responders, and Wounded Heroes and their Caregivers. Of all the items included in these Care Packages, the most cherished are the personal letters of appreciation.

Way to be Principled and Participate in showing Respect and Appreciation for our Service Men and Women!

The Development of the IB Learner Profile = Development of International Mindedness

We have been giving suggestions for ways to help develop International Mindedness through learning activities and opportunities. However, the most important piece of developing International Mindedness is through the development of the IB learner profile. By nurturing the attributes of the learner profile (caring, knowledgeable, open-minded, etc.) we are also developing International Mindedness. In other words, the Action of the learner profile is International Mindedness. It is good to become aware of ways to learn more about others and their similarities and differences, but a deeper sense of International Mindedness comes through the constant nurturing and development of the learner profile attributes all year-long in many ways, shapes, and forms.
