September 20, 2020: Update from Mrs. Hanson

Post

Greetings, Caleb Families,

We officially have our first full week of Distance Learning in the books and I couldn’t be prouder of our students, families and teachers. I know that there are lots of things about distance learning and living through a pandemic that are not ideal, but your positivity and persistence have been remarkable. I’d like to give a special shout out to our IB Enrichment team – Mrs. Cordero, Maestra Barrera, Mrs. Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Jacobsen - for rolling out IB, Spanish, music and art this week and to all our children and families who have participated. It was a great week of learning in all of our Google Classrooms and we’re all ready for another starting tomorrow morning at 8!

We had some questions about Spanish that I’d like to clarify quickly. Students in 1st and 2nd have Spanish with Maestra Barerra in three 30-minute sessions each week. Our 3rd-6th graders have two 45-minutes sessions, however only 30 minutes of each of those sessions are live with Maestra Barerra with the remaining 15 minutes of each spent meant for students to engage in independent Spanish work. We’re still working out the transitions on Zoom, so thank you to our teachers for their patience and all of you for sticking with us while we figure it out.

On Wednesday evening, skip cooking and have Chipotle for dinner instead. You can order in-person or online from the 5738 Folsom Boulevard Chipotle between 5 and 9pm on Wednesday evening. Bring the flyer on our website, show it on your phone, or just tell the cashier you’re supporting Caleb Greenwood to make sure 33% proceeds are donated to our school. You can also order online using the code on the flyer, which again, you can find our school website.

Tomorrow is International Day of Peace. If you missed our Live Peace Day Event last week, you can still check it out on our IB PYP Google Classroom where you can also find lots of resources and ideas about how you can become involved in committing to Peace with your Open Minded Lifestyles any day of the year. This week, take some time as a family to check out at least one or two of those resources and share your commitments with us on Google Classroom, FB and Instagram!

I’ve posted a Family Video Message for this week HERE, so please take a few minutes to watch that as well. As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
