Weekly Cougar Update

Post

Good Evening, Caleb Families,

It was such a joy last week to have our Cohort A/B students on campus all together and to see our Cohort C students’ smiling faces on Zoom. We’ve got just two weeks left together before summer break and we’re looking forward to all the time we can get with our students. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we still don’t get to have our typical end-of-year celebrations, but we are planning virtual promotions for our kinders and a drive-thru celebration for our 6th graders. If you’d like to celebrate our 6th graders with us, please feel free to dress up in your Cougar Spirit Wear, make signs and line up on the sidewalks (three feet apart) on Camellia on Wednesday, June 16, 12:30-1:30. Our Caleb Staff and DJ Char will be on the blacktop to wish our 6th graders well as they drive through the campus and we’d love your help outside the gates too!

Sac City has contracted with an organization called Kelvin Pulse to gather information about school culture, climate and social emotional learning. When our students see a blue dog bouncing around on their screen, it means there are questions for them to answer about their feelings about school. This week, I received feedback from the last round of questions and it was really insightful. So, if you see the dog, please answer the questions so we can learn more about how we’re all doing!

Teachers have begun collecting textbooks from in-person students, so please remember to bring any school-issued books to school for return this week. Students should turn them in directly to teachers. For students on full distance learning, please label books with your name and teacher’s name, then drop them off in the labeled bin by the front doors and we will take it from there. Chromebooks do not yet have to be returned, so please keep those at home until we request them next fall. However, if you are leaving the district, please bring your CHromebook to the front office for return before the last day of school.

With June, we have a new focus attribute and action focus. This month, as we wrap up this crazy school year, we’re exploring Reflective and Social Entrepreneurship. We have a ton to reflect on this year, and in IB, this means we thoughtfully consider the interconnectedness of ourselves, our ideas, our world and our experiences. We think about the things we’re really good at and things we’re working to get better at, and we focus on having a growth mindset to support our learning and development. Reflecting can happen in little ways, like when we think about our feelings, why we feel a certain way and what that tells us about what we need to grow, or it can happen in bigger ways, like when we look back at this crazy year and think about all the new things we’ve learned and discovered because our world has changed so much. However you do it, reflection is a very important part of our work as IB Learners to make our a world a better, more peaceful place for all. So please spend some time as a family this month thinking about how you’ve made a difference and what we can do next!

Be sure to check out this week’s IB PYP Newsletter for an update on the Caleb Action Center.

Two more weeks, Cougars! We’ve got this!
